Let me ask you a question: Have you ever walked through life clutching a sword in one hand, your faith in the other, caught in the middle trying to make the right decision?

Everything you do impacts those around you, your family, your friends, your community, even your church.

This is exactly how Geralt of Rivia feels. A monster hunter, also known as ‘A Witcher,’ his responsibility is to hunt monstrous creatures across different lands where the lines between right and wrong are often blurred, and solutions are rarely simple.

Life in the wilds is never easy, especially when danger lurks around every corner. As a graduate of the School of the Wolf at Kaer Morhen, Geralt is bound to a Witcher’s Code that he must uphold at all times. Some decisions bring him dangerously close to breaking his oaths, yet he presses on.

Being a Christian is a lot like being a Witcher. We live in a world where we must uphold our own code ‘God’s commandments’, while constantly facing temptations and challenges. The resistance to sin is tough. Just when we think we’ve overcome one “monster,” another isn’t far behind. The wilds are, quite literally, wild.

Let’s step into Geralt’s boots and see the world through his eyes. How does he press on when so much is against him? How can he uphold his integrity when others seek to compromise it?

Wherever you’re reading this, whether from the high plains of Skellige, the grandeur of Beauclair Palace in Toussaint, or simply your favorite coffee spot, what lessons can Geralt teach us about living a Christian life, upholding God’s commands, and walking by faith in a world that challenges us at every turn?

Every Choice Has a Cost: Walking in Integrity When Others Are Affected

“Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling… It’s all the same.”

Every choice Geralt makes impacts those around him, and sometimes, the consequences catch up to him when he least expects it.

In The Witcher 3, Geralt takes on a contract leading to the quest, “Skellige’s Most Wanted.” Towards the end, he faces a group of creatures accusing him of murder. They act out of fear, assuming he enjoys killing non-humans rather than aiding them. However, Geralt proves them wrong by recounting instances where he helped their kind instead of harming them. This causes them to reconsider, all except a werewolf consumed by hatred.

Whether or not Geralt had a hand in the werewolf’s suffering, some people will always find fault and make life difficult. But the good he does doesn’t go unnoticed. Those who seek his help are grateful, rewarding him generously.

A Christian’s walk of integrity is much the same. Some will appreciate it; others won’t. But when we put God first in our decisions, we not only honor Him but find honor ourselves.

Proverbs 3:6 — “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Bridging Divides: Navigating Life Between Two Worlds

“People like to invent monsters and monstrosities. Then they seem less monstrous themselves.”

Geralt stands as a bridge between humans and non-humans, striving to find common ground, even when it’s not easy.

In the world of The Continent, monsters are often misunderstood, shunned by society simply because they look different. Some become vicious due to mistreatment, proving that fear and prejudice can create more monsters than reality ever could.

As Christians, we’re often called to be peacemakers, bridging the gap between opposing sides—whether it’s between friends, family members, or even our own inner struggles.

Jesus calls us to love one another and bring peace to divided situations. That means showing love and understanding, even when the world pushes back.

Matthew 5:9 — “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”

Rising Above Rejection: Staying True to Your Purpose

“Don’t blame me for your bad decisions.”

Despite his good deeds, Geralt is often met with criticism and distrust. People misunderstand him, ridicule him, and even fear him.

Sound familiar? As Christians, when we share God’s Word, we often encounter resistance, mockery, and rejection. But unlike Geralt, we have a higher power to lean on. When the world turns against us, God stands with us, strengthening us to continue our mission.

John 15:18 — “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.”

The White Wolf’s Calling: Embracing Your God-Given Strength

“I’m not a good man. I’m a Witcher.”

Geralt is known by many names—Butcher of Blaviken, Gwynblidd, Ravix of Fourhorn—but his most well-known title is The White Wolf.

Enhanced by mutations, Geralt uses his abilities not for selfish gain, but to protect and serve others.

Likewise, God has given each of us unique gifts and strengths. We’re not meant to blend in; we’re called to stand out and make an impact.

Psalm 28:7 — “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.”

A Wolf with a Pack: Finding Strength in True Companionship

You don’t have to do this alone.”

As strong as Geralt is, even he doesn’t fight alone. From his faithful horse, Roach (as well as every other horse he had called Roach), to Yennefer and Vesemir, Geralt’s companions play a vital role in his journey.

We, too, need a “pack.” God never intended for us to walk this journey alone. Having trusted friends and mentors in our faith journey can make all the difference.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 — “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”

Embracing Your Path: Walking in Faith, Hope, and Belief

Each of us is on a unique journey, filled with challenges and choices. Geralt’s path is filled with danger and uncertainty, yet he remains true to his code. Likewise, we must stay true to our faith, trusting that God’s plans are greater than any obstacle we face.

So, hero, what will be your next move? What gifts can you use to bless and inspire others?

Remember, the road ahead may not always be smooth, but with faith, hope, and belief, victory is in sight. Stay faithful, keep God first, and champion on!
